Module 2

1. For each video and article list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

Article- I feel like the main idea is the way of how everyone's brain works. Looking at art many brains will see certain of the same things however, seeing as everyone's brain is different, some will see some different things that stick out.

Carta video- Ramachandran and Changeux explain different views of how art is interpreted from the brain. From how we choose to see art and how we just naturally look at it without thinking.

Aesthetics video- This showed many different philosophies over different time periods and how each of them are unique and present different ideas in each different person.

2. Which philosopher's theroy on aesthetics do you feel is most important? Be sure to mention the philosphers name, era (time in history), and contribution to the aesthetic theory in your response.

I really think that Plato had a huge impact of his philosophy of aesthetics. Dating back to before 400 BC in Greece. He really focuses on the beauty in the art. To me, the true understanding of art comes from beauty and that is what people will understand from the artwork which is why I feel it is important.

3. What do you think about Changeux and Ramachandran scientific view of aesthetics and art? What was the most interesting fact you discovered from each speakers lecture?

Ramachandran had many interesting facts. One that stuck out the most was when he showed three similar pictures. One was drawn by an eight year old child, one by Leonardo Da Vinci, and a third by 7 year old autistic child. It showed how the autistic child's drawing could be more beautiful and less cluttered due to isolationism.

Jean-Pierre Changeux really came off dull to me. It was just hard overall to follow along. I was interested in learning about the brain and what different emotions cause the brain to do.

I feel like Ramachandran pointed out how we feel about the art when we look at it while Changeux was a more in depth of how we understand the art from our brain without having any kind of bias towards the art.

4. How do the videos and article relate to the readings in the text?

While I first read the book some of the ideas and concepts were a little hard to understand. However, the video's helped because I was able to visibly able to see examples and understand different examples and come to a better understanding.

5. What is your opinion of the films and article? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics in your reading in the text?

The films in my opinion were very helpful. I really learned a lot from Vilayanur Ramachandran and Jean-Pierre Changeux. Some points of the video were even funny which helped keep my attention. The videos along with the article provided much more examples for me to understand. Especially in the videos I was able to see step by step on different topics.
