Step 1: The Exhibition
Questions about the exhibit:
1. What is the title of the exhibit?
"War On Going Project"
2. What is the theme of the exhibition?
The main idea and theme behind the exhibition is that you really have to look at it. You can see an inverted pyramid and temple which portray a tribute to the servicemen and women who died serving in Iraq in a sad/depressed themed environment set by background music.
Step 2: The Gallery
Questions about the physical space:
1. What type of lighting is used?
The surrounding light of the exhibition was dark and dimly lit. However, the light focusing on the object itself had bright light shining from the base facing up as well as light from the projectors.
2. What colors are used on the walls?
The walls were a dull grayish/white in color.
3. What materials are used in the interior architecture of the space?
Simple wooden flooring with a wall of black bags at the entrance and a couple chairs in the middle.
4. How is the movement of the viewer through the gallery space?
To enter the exhibition, the viewer must work their way through black bags, each representing a lost life. Working through the bags you then get to the screen listing each persons name, and then the actual object. Upon arrival of the chairs, the viewer is also able to listen to past war stories.
Step 3: The Artwork
Questions about the artwork:
1. How are the artworks organized?
For
this section I was not able to choose three artworks from the exhibit
as there wasn't three... So I researched the artists passed artworks and remembered certain things from other exhibits to answer the following questions.
2. How are the artrworks similar?
Much of the Ben Perrone's artwork is on the darker side and creates dark emotions.
3. How are the artworks different?
The artworks are different in how they are made. For example, the first picture from the exhibit is a sculpture, the next picture being a collage of artwork and the final picture being a painting.
4. How are the artworks framed?
The artworks are not framed
5. How are the artworks identified and labeled?
The Exhibit was clearly labeled before walking in.
6. What is the proximity of the artwork to each other?
The artworks were not located in the same location, however the black bags at the exhibit were dangling from the ceiling on separate strings for each.
4. Answer this question: What did you think of visiting the Gallery and purposefully looking at the exhibition from a different perspective - the physical space, the architecture, theme, etc.?
This was a lot different for me. Usually I walk in look at things that catch my attention and move on. However, purposefully looking all around the exhibition I learned a lot more. For example, looking at how all the bags were hung, the physical space all around me made me appreciate the time and effort of the artist and made me think about why things were the way the were including the music to set the mood. Everything simply had a purpose for the way it was.
